#35: Dr. Cox, Scrubs
Scrubs (2001) spotlighted J.D., a young doctor navigating the chaos of Sacred Heart Hospital. His narration, daydreams, and awkward romances framed the series as a coming-of-age story in medicine. Zach Braff’s character was clearly designed to be the heart of the show.

But John C. McGinley’s Dr. Perry Cox quickly became the dominant force. His biting sarcasm, brutal rants, and tough-love mentorship gave the show some of its sharpest moments. Episodes diving into Cox’s vulnerabilities — from patient losses to fatherhood — cemented him as the emotional powerhouse, often overshadowing J.D.’s bumbling charm.
