#9: Pregnant Religious Mermaids

If there was ever a questionable mashup, it’s this set of Christian mermaid ornaments. Yes, they are Christian, they are mermaids, one of them is pregnant, and to top it all off, they hang from your Christmas tree. I would be a bit remiss if I didn’t point out that the male mermaid has a belt, with actual belt loops made from his tail.

Oddly enough, mermaids are not mentioned one time in the Bible, so I’m not sure where the idea came from. Even if Christianity doesn’t acknowledge them, they’re very well known throughout other religions. Both the goddesses of love and the sea are from Greek mythology, and mermaids represent the sacred feminine.
