#20: President Theodore Roosevelt’s Many Pets
Theodore Roosevelt turned the White House into a lively menagerie. His family kept dogs, cats, guinea pigs, snakes, a macaw, and even a badger. Horses and ponies roamed the grounds, and the Roosevelt children delighted in their sprawling collection. It was easily the most diverse presidential pet lineup in history.

These animals reflected Roosevelt’s adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. They entertained visitors, filled the White House with noise and laughter, and emphasized the president’s robust, family-oriented image. Roosevelt’s menagerie left such an impression that it still stands as the wildest and most memorable era of presidential pets.
