Freya came from a small family and planned to invite only a handful of people she loved most. Leon had never described sprawling gatherings or dozens of cousins, which made Cecelia’s next request seem oddly out of place. The bride-to-be imagined an intimate celebration with around forty guests, a circle that felt honest and calm.
She pictured names written neatly across a short list, each with a story that mattered to her. Then Cecelia mentioned relatives, partners, colleagues, and associates who would also need to attend. The numbers ballooned in her notebook. Surprise hardened into worry as she realized the guest list was no longer hers.
