Do These Japanese Customs Seem Foreign To You?

I’m Just Going to Take a Nap Wherever I Want

In Japan, ineuri translated as “sleep while being present” is a common part of the Japanese culture. In this part of the world, it is quite normal to see people who are well off sleeping on trains, park benches, and other public areas. This is quite different from what we see in America.

Anyone sleeping in these areas in the US is far from well off and doesn’t have a home. Ironically, the reason Japanese people do this is because of the incredibly long hours they work. It’s funny how cultures differ. We work excruciatingly long hours in the US too, but sleeping is only acceptable to do at home.
