However, there is one group of people who are allowed to make as much physical contact with anyone else as much under the right circumstances. Oshiya are train station employees that push and shove people onto a train until the doors can close. It sounds pretty harsh, but if it gets people where they want to go on time, it’s worth a bit of rough contact.

These people are called oshiya, which literally translates into “pushers.” They don white gloves to pack people into an already-packed train without getting their germs all over you. If you get stuck in a door, one of the oshiya will come running over and forcefully push you inside.
