Taxi doors open automatically
Japan is known for being super-high-tech, but its advanced technology isn’t just limited to robotics and gadgets. If you want to catch a taxi in Japan, you don’t have to open the door (at least, in most cases). Taxi doors open automatically for the passenger, and all you need to do is jump in.
These doors were made in preparation for the Olympics that took place in Tokyo so many decades ago. It was an effort to prevent the spread of germs and disease during a sudden increase in tourism. After the Olympics were over, the technology stayed. We wish Ubers had automatic-opening doors.
