Use the Oshibori for your hands only

When dining out, you’ll receive a ton of different utensils, most of which we don’t know. However, you’ll also be presented a warm, moist towel from the server before your food comes. This is called the oshibori, and it’s used to wipe your hands clean before picking up your utensils.

One of the most common mistakes foreigners make is wiping their face with tie oshibori. While people will forgive you for your ignorance, you should try and avoid using it to wipe anything other than your hands. After you’re done wiping your hands, place it back onto the saucer and begin eating.
