Leave only after the boss

While we’re on the subject of how to deal with a boss, in Japan, it’s customary that all employees stay in the office until the boss leaves. Even if you’ve finished doing your job, if your boss is still in the office, you shouldn’t leave just yet, unless there’s an emergency.

However, there’s one huge problem, especially for foreigners. The boss tends to stay until super-late in order to set an example for his or her subordinates. So, it’s common for employees to stay for up to an hour after the workday is over. Yeah, this is one of those things that doesn’t make us want to work in Japan.
