#43: Sugar
We’re not going to sugar-coat this one for you. Sugar, much like flour, often becomes a pantry staple, seemingly lasting forever until it’s finally used up. It’s the go-to ingredient for impromptu baking sessions, but many overlook its shelf life. Though it seems to sit indefinitely, sugar, too, has a best-by date that should be acknowledged.

Despite its long shelf life, sugar should ideally be replaced every two years to maintain its best quality and taste. It rarely ‘goes bad’ in the conventional sense, but its quality gradually decreases once the package is opened. This subtle decline is why a periodic refresh of your sugar supply is recommended.
