In 1962, Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking book, Silent Spring, sounded the alarm about the perils of pesticides, sparking a scientific quest to investigate the long-term effects of DDT. Lo and behold, the culprit was found guilty of causing reproductive problems in humans and inducing liver tumors in animals. Following a decade of debate, DDT was finally shown the red card in 1972.
