In Poor Taste
Comedy is so volatile. There are comedians who somehow get away with joking about serious–even tragic–events and come out with belly laughs. But usually, joking about tragedy doesn’t go over so well. For instance, take this tweet by Gilbert Gottfried, when a 2011 earthquake in Japan caused a tsunami on its shores.
After that comment, Gottfried got reamed out by his followers for his insensitivity. With thousands of casualties from the natural disaster, most people found it wasn’t the time to joke or make light of the intensely sad situation. It seems a running theme that actors’ tone-deaf tweets are met with poor responses.
