In 2009 it was revealed that David Letterman who drove his longtime assistant Stephanie Birkitt home from work as actually having an affair with her. The affair was discovered by her boyfriend, CBS News producer Robert “Joe” Halderman when he came across her diary that described her ongoing affair with her famous boss. Feeling betrayed Halderman tried to extort $2 million from the Late Show host by threatening to expose his infidelity, Letterman then made his now infamous on-air admission. Letterman apologized to his wife, Regina, the mother of his 5-year-old son.
