Rich Richard is Rich?
The role of Darrin Stephens was originally played by Richard York. However, after some health complications, York finally left the show after three seasons. When looking for a replacement for the lead character, the role was almost snagged by Richard Crenna. However, a third Richard ended up with the part for the last three seasons.
Richard Sargent’s Darrin starred opposite Elizabeth Montgomery’s Samantha for most of the show’s run, but many fans recall Dick York more fondly as the “real” Darrin, as he was the one who originated the role. While many Richards worked on the show, only two shared the role of Darrin Stephens.
