#38: Betty Ford Joins the Dance
As First Lady, Betty Ford wasn’t afraid to step into the spotlight—or onto the dance floor. During a 1975 visit to China, she gamely joined a ballet class, twirling alongside young dancers with a big smile. In her belted dress and heels, she looked both elegant and joyfully out of place.

Betty’s openness and willingness to engage made her one of the most relatable First Ladies. Whether discussing women’s rights or laughing through a misstep in a ballet studio, she showed authenticity that resonated with families across America. Sometimes diplomacy is best expressed in rhythm and movement.
