#18: Florence Harding, Wife of President Warren G. Harding
Florence Harding was one of the most politically active First Ladies of her time. A newspaperwoman before entering the White House, she brought a keen understanding of public opinion and media. She wasn’t afraid to speak openly, even pushing her husband to embrace causes that were often considered controversial.

Though her husband’s presidency is remembered for scandal, Florence carved her own mark. She advocated for veterans, supported animal welfare, and expanded the idea of a First Lady as an active political partner. Her boldness challenged traditional expectations and hinted at the more modern role to come.
