To keep consumers guessing
This is something I’ll never fully comprehend. There’s one argument that retailers don’t include sales tax on the price tag because taxes vary from state to state. While true, don’t these companies print out price tags for their products? And if so, do they print them out for the entire country? That sounds unreasonable.
My guess is that retailers do this because they think we’d be too shy to return an item because we can’t afford the sales tax. Life would be a lot easier if companies included the sales tag on the price tag, but what can we do? It’s not like we have calculators in our pockets or something.
