Hot cocoa
Yes, we call it “hot cocoa.” Other countries around the world probably call it “hot chocolate,” and we’ll gladly follow suit. However, why is the term “cocoa” so controversial? Are we actually going to debate the difference between chocolate and cocoa and how you can’t use them interchangeably? We have more important things to discuss, like whether the Earth is round or flat.
If you want to get technical about it (why bother?), cocoa is simply chocolate in powder form without any cocoa butter. It’s has a bitter taste, which is why you need to sweeten it up with sugar. Hot chocolate, on the other hand, is melted chocolate and milk. In America, you can use the terms interchangeably without raising any eyebrows.
