#7: Billings, Montana
Billings, the largest city in Montana, has a frontier spirit blended with modern convenience. Known as the “Magic City” for its rapid growth in the late 1800s, it remains a hub for ranching, energy, and outdoor recreation. The Yellowstone River and rimrock cliffs frame its rugged yet welcoming vibe.

Billings lies near Pompeys Pillar, a sandstone rock where William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition carved his name in 1806. It’s one of the only surviving physical marks from the expedition, making the site a national treasure and tying Billings directly to America’s exploration history.
