#29: Aztec Rituals Included Ceremonial Cannibalism
Some Aztec rituals reportedly included the ceremonial consumption of human flesh from sacrificial victims. These acts were not routine meals but symbolic religious offerings meant to honor the gods and absorb the strength of fallen warriors. The practice shocked Spanish conquistadors when they first witnessed it in the 1500s.

The flesh was typically prepared in small quantities and consumed only by elites as part of sacred feasts. While horrifying to outsiders, it was seen as a powerful spiritual act. This ritual cannibalism shows the extreme devotion and very different worldview of the Aztec civilization.
