#16: Millions Worship Mexico’s Skeleton Saint Of Death
Santa Muerte, the “Saint of Death,” has millions of followers across Mexico. Depicted as a skeletal figure in robes, she’s believed to offer protection, healing, and even vengeance. Her shrines are often decorated with candles, flowers, and offerings from devotees asking her for help in desperate situations.

While the Catholic Church condemns her worship, Santa Muerte’s popularity continues to grow, especially among marginalized communities and even cartel members. Followers see her as nonjudgmental and powerful. For many, she represents a spiritual protector in a world where traditional institutions have failed them.
